Comfort. Stretch. Panic.
About a month ago, while kiting in Isla Blanca, I had a conversation with a British guy who was also visiting Mexico on a Kite holiday. I'm not sure what we were talking about while we sat in the shallow, warm water under the hot, tropical sun, but he began to tell me about;
We must have been discussing my confusion over where to take my flying career and freelance writing. I've been uncertain recently with my life. I've been coasting in The Flight Attendant Life. I've been playing incessantly in my personal life. I've been exploring relationships and interests, but feel like my business pursuits are suffering. I'm trying to figure out what zone I'm living; is it comfort, stretch, or panic?
Financially it feels like a panic.
Flying feels like a comfort.
Writing feels like a stretch.
The Brit said that when we live in comfort, everything is nice, but we do not grow as individuals. When we live in panic, we are less productive, creative, and impactful as everything becomes a crisis. When we live in stretch, we are challenging ourselves, while maintaining a positive optimism and realistic expectations of the future. Stretch doesn't always feel good, but we know it is good for us. We work through it and build strength.
We need all zones, but stretch is where the magic happens. Find your stretch. I'm looking for mine.
